Paralegal Schools – If It Ain’t Broke Don’t Fix It

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Like most professions, legal assistants and paralegals are represented by a wide array of organizations (some professional and some not so) that work to improve the overall working conditions of their members. A few of the most prominent paralegal organizations include AAPI, the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) and NALA (the National Association of Legal Assistants). While the American Alliance of Paralegals (AAPI is the new kid in town because it wasn’t started until 2003) is fully geared towards the training of paralegals (through paralegal schools and instructors) both NALA and NFPA focus their spheres of influence on developing professional development programs and promoting a community as well as a global presence for the paralegal profession.

Essential yardsticks to bear in mind when looking at any paralegal program:

1. The central purpose of any high quality paralegal school should be total intellectual maturation of their students. Accomplishing this goal is accomplished by teaching applicable, common sense, usable job skills in addition to a solid core of legal theory. The paralegal programs curriculum must also be broad enough to include subjects ranging from ethics, business organization and torts to legal research and writing. Additionally, the best paralegal schools will expend time and effort on developing a well-rounded, critical thinking student with outstanding communication, and organizational skills.

2. Commitment by the faculty and the paralegal curriculum director to the importance of the paralegal in the whole legal system is a must. Additionally, they must have the proper academic credentials to be able to teach the subject. Ideally, the paralegal program director should have a law degree but if not, they should have some type of advanced paralegal degree. As for the instructors they should be experts in the subjects they are teaching. How they came to become an “expert” can be debated as to what is the best path but regardless of the journey they need to have the proper expertise.

3. Is the tried and true campus classroom learning model best for you or is the so-called “modern” online training environment a better fit? An essential question that needs to be answered before you take the plunge and decide to pursue your paralegal degree via the online learning model. Another key question includes how you’ll receive the training. Will it be through web based courses or telecourses or interactive video or something else? Furthermore, one of the most important questions is very simple, “Can you learn online?”

If you want a career, not just a job and you have the internal strength and drive to push yourself the paralegal field is ripe for the picking. A paralegal offers status, fair wages and a growing job market for those will the talent and skills to match up with the endless opportunities.

Offshore Companies for Any Size of Commercial Enterprise

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

It is evenly significant for a business to know where to plant itself as well as having the proper business thought. With this idea in mind, numerous commercial enterprises have relocated their business operations in foreign nations to become offshore companies. So, in definition, offshore companies are business enterprises that function in a certain nation while possessing its headquarters in another. A business would meet certain advantages and disfavours while applying this strategy depending on the industry it is a component of.

Reduction of taxes is one of the strongest causes why Offshore Companies are being considered. Taxes constitute a healthy portion in a companys overhead disbursals. Other nations have lighter tax ranges compared to others so commercial enterprises find it favourable to work in these nations. Aside from tax rates, a country’s currency may have steeper prise in another country. This would mean that a company in the UK for example, will have more spending power in the Philippines than in its home country. Some foreign legal powers also have easier and lighter organization costs. Sometimes, foreign legal powers have more legal security. This would translate to businesses having a higher level of privateness to operate. This strategy is beneficial for companies who may have less than affirmative reviews in other nations.

Advantages as well as disadvantages accompany a business when processing a company offshore. Some industries would necessitate trust. Sometimes, offshore companies can’t assure this. This would enforce to financial institutions, insurance companies and banks. As indicated by the law, certain types of business enterprises are not granted to operate. As an example, commercial enterprises that have restricted negotiations with the government cannot operate outside of the home nation.

Besides considering the vantages and disadvantages of making offshore companies, commercial enterprises also need to study the implications of their determination. At this time of global economic crisis, other people might consider organizing an offshore company as a means to cut corners to create more money while others are distressed. They may not be illegal but they may have negative effects in their home country.

The selection to form offshore companies is very appealing now. Nevertheless, it is essential that trusted offshore company service providers are tapped to assure legitimacy. It is suggested that getting to recognise these suppliers is a priority as fraudulent entities are also present.

Maryland Home Inspections, Ennis Law Firm, Dallas Home Inspectors

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Maryland home inspections have most certainly been around most likely as long as houses have been. People would often ask someone they knew, such as a builder friend, or sometimes even a parent, to assess the condition of the house tehy were hoping to sell, or planning to buy.
Most of the times, that assessment was based on quick observation, with little or no understanding of what was important, or someone respected for qualities apart from the building trades. This was during simpler times, using construction techniques that were simpler for the most part, and evaluations rendered were predictably simple.
The Hale Law Firm, P.C. serves a wide spectrum of individuals and businesses from our home offices in Waxahachie, Texas, Ennis Law Firm The Hale Law Firm work with and represent clients throughout Ellis and Dallas County, including but not limited to: Red Oak, Waxahachie, Midlothian, Ovilla, Glenn Heights, Ferris, Ennis, DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Lancaster, Duncanville, Grand Prairie, Mansfield, Dallas.
That is one of the reasons when your Dallas home inspection is finished, you you will be furnished with a free 90 day carpenter ant and termine warrant, an instant computer generated report on site which includes a summary page of necessisary repairs and a Color Photo Journal of the Home, PLUS a Copy is Emailed to Your Agent Immediately from the Inspection
A guide “Coping With the Joys of Home Ownership” which is written for Fort Worth homebuyers, to help understand your new home, is also provided.
You need a Dallas home inspectors service which is not only knowledgeable about homes but who also insures that you are informed properly to assist you in making the best decision possible.
That was a long time ago. Times have changed as well as have home inspections. Fundamentally, the main focus of a home inspection is to identify to the buyer of any major shortcomings in the condition of the property, integral or influencing peripheral parts or systems of the property. We also hold it to be true to present in our reports the parts of the property which are good. We know that an educated customer is more likely to make a wise decision. That customer would be misguided if we only focused on the concerns or problems with a home. Reporting on both the bad as well as the good things about the home is paramount in the decision making process.

Paralegal College – As Solid as the Ground We Stand on

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Vital aspects to remember when breaking down a paralegal program:

1. Paralegal courses should teach usable job skills along with the underlying legal theory. The paralegal schools curriculum should also cover torts, contracts, legal writing and legal research, ethics and litigation. Paralegal courses should be geared towards developing students’ communication skills, their critical thinking and their skill set in dealing with ethical issues. Paralegal degree programs should also include a way to gain experience such as an internship, clinical experience or practicum.

2. Who are the individuals making up the faculty and the administration of the paralegal college you are looking to attend? Does the curriculum program director have a law degree or minimally have they had solid field experience along with an advanced degree in some aspect of paralegal education? Are the instructors considered to be “experts” in their sphere of influence as a result of their field experience and educational background?

3. Are you looking for a traditional campus environment or online training? Online paralegal training is becoming increasingly popular but is an online learning environment right for you? In addition, you need to find out what type of training system will be used (i.e. interactive video or web-based, etc.) and how much interaction takes place between the teachers and you (the student). Additionally, if you’ve never taken online classes before, you need to decide if you have the motivation and discipline to do the assignments on your own.

As the old saying goes, “if you want more than just a job and you have what it takes” then in today’s uncertain economy a career in law as a paralegal, is about as good as opportunities get. Undoubtedly, opportunity knocks for those that have the required drive and training. So if you’ve been sitting on the fence; the time is now, jump down and go get your paralegal degree.

UNISON Pushes Employers for Safety Measures to Prevent Back Injuries

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

UNISON has urged employers to conduct periodic risk assessment and also provide workers with adequate training so that they can be protected against back injuries.

The call followed the accident of an employee named David Barber at his workplace. Barber, a supervisor at a sports centre run by the Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council, suffered a serious back injury after trying to carry defective stairs of a swimming pool, and had to take early retirement. Though his employers did not admit the liability for the accident, they agreed on paying compensation of £50,000 after legal proceedings.

Back injuries have been identified as one of the commonest workplace injuries that lead to loss of millions in revenue every year, due to lost hours of work as well as compensation paid to injured employees.

Heather Wakefield, UNISON’s Head of Local Government, clarified the stance of the union and said Barber not only lost his job in the accident but also his self-dependence. Moreover, it affected the Council, which lost a loyal and hardworking employee, just because it had refused to pay heed to the repeated requests for repair of the stairs, saying it was not so important.

Wakefield added it was deplorable that the occurrence of back injuries was so common, even though they can be easily prevented. She said employers should listen to workers, conduct risk assessments and provide adequate training to employees to avoid such accidents, in addition to observing the Manual Handling regulations. Manual Handling Courses would enable organisation to be compliant with the requirement to train persons involved in manual handling activities Furthermore, Wakefield said the authorities should ensure that legislations are implemented in their entirety so as to deter employers from making defaults.

Into Existence – Old Barrister Bookcase – it Is Amusing

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Any library is characterized by a dominating bookcase. volumes are safe and free from dirt and debris in a bookcase. Bookcases generally have horizontal compartments for keeping books. These bookshelves sometimes come with glass doors for handy admission to the contents.

Tell me about a barristers bookcase.

attorneys have to show from several reference manuals for their practice. the legal journals are costly and lawyers require to refer them oftentimes. A barrister bookcase is a kind of bookcase especially produced for storing such bulky volumes utilized by barristers. Oak and cherry wood is the preferable choice for making these lawyers bookcases in umpteen coatings and hues.

How books were stored before barrister bookcases came into being?

Books were not found commonly, so nobody thought of how to store them. books in old years were hand-codified only. wealthy people who owned them stored them in reachable containers. It was the rich mans privilege to own and carry books as they were not affordable. these wealthy men utilized these containers to store books.

After a while, these hand-penned books were seen in many affluent peoples houses. Thus the books had to be located within a wardrobe. bookcases sold nowadays have these cupboards as ancestors, but dont have doors always.

How were the books placed in these shelves?

The old technique was different than what it is Now. The books would be placed on their sides or with the edge on the forefront. A band of vellum or leather was utilised for inscription of the title and also closed the book. since this band had to be seen, the books were located with edges out.

After publishing technology was devised, books were easily available to the common man due to the reduced prices. Because the titles could be published behind the book, the edges were not facing outward any more.

Such cases were created of what fabrics?

Oak was the key material in producing a barrister bookcase. But if you liked you could order for a bookcase in maple, cherry and pine wood likewise. A steel barrister bookcase is long-lasting and low on maintenance too. The oldest bookcases are said to exist in England in the Bodleian Library at Oxford University. They are placed here since the sixteenth century.

Chippendale and Sheraton were the leading bookcase designers who created the most beautiful bookcases. Any room could look embellished with these bookcases.

How are the latest bookcases different?

who could have stated that a simple bookshelf will develop into being a tough barrister bookshelf later?
