Will Greater Competition in Gaming Notebooks Be Good for Us
Sunday, August 17th, 2008Gaming laptops used to only be brought from certain manufacturers. Sure they were not produced in massive volumes however manufacturers did produce a lot of cash on them. They were the kind of laptop computer everyone wanted but the one they just could not purchase. I believe you could say they were the best laptops around, at least speed wise. Having said that many of us most likely didn’t buy laptops of this variety because of the cost. Things look set to change though because now the gaming laptops market has attracted the eye of larger manufacturers.
They know there is revenue to be earned here. They can dictate the niche. Nowadays the mainstream laptop computer margins are very tiny so it presents the chance for them to retrieve the gross profits. Manufacturers of that magnitude know they can get buyers to buy laptops at high prices providing they represent it well. I wonder whether this would be the death of smaller companies? This formerly premium technology is simply going to be directed at everyone now. I reckon purchasing from a familiar brand also gives the perception of added value.
The hype being created regarding the latest branded gaming notebook computers is making potential customers perceive them to be the best laptops ever. I predict that small retailers may yet have an opportunity. Being able to purchase exactly what parts they desire is a big bonus for most people who are thinking of purchasing a gaming laptop computer. These specific potential customers are usually really knowledgeable with the technology and are able to judge each of the parts by themselves. The details are important for this sort of customer. This could be interpreted as a positive thing for the gamer. It will force prices to dip and make the latest technology inexpensive for everyone. I’m not too certain any of that will occur however. Technology is continuously getting better and the latest stuff will typically be pricey on launch. The larger companies have already released their own gaming notebook range, so all we can do now is stand back and observe.
